For well over 45 years of trading ‘Academy Billiard Co.’ have been the leading specialists in the supply of the finest quality of genuine antique English Billiard, Snooker & Pool tables & accessories in the UK. Owner, Robert Donnachie, has now decided the time is right to close the business down and enter the world of retirement, now having instructed Wellers Auctions to hold a retirement auction on his behalf. There is an extremely wide array of lots, ranging from scoreboards for Billiards and Life-Pool as well as cues from many of the best makes around, table legs, memorabilia, collectables and of course the showpiece Snooker/Billiards tables.
All the stock in this mainly unreserved auction must go, and there are some notable quality entries that you won’t want to miss! In Lot 163 you will find the first of two snooker tables previously owned by a well known celebrity… This is a Norval & Sons Glasgow full sized Snooker table in Colombian pine, accompanied by Norval and sons billiard scoreboard, c.1870, originally owned by Ozzy Osbourne when he lived in Beel House, Amersham, Buckinghamshire, England and was previously in a country house in Aberdeen, it has been restored to retain its original patina, approx. 34″ (h) x 79.75″ (w) x 150.5″ (l), with set of balls, originally sold to Ozzy Osbourne by Academy Billiards and brought back when Ozzy moved out of the country.
The showpiece of this auction can be found in Lot 164 which is Burroughes & Watts full sized snooker table, displaying magnificently carved mahogany in the Adam style, c.1890, accompanied by matching Billiard cupboard scoreboard, with 12 clips for cues, this table and scoreboard is shown on the album cover ‘She’s a Lady’ by Sir Tom Jones (original record comes with the table), provenance guarantees being owned by Sir Tom Jones whilst he lived in St. Georges Hill, Weybridge in the early 70’s. Table dimensions approx. 33.5″ (h) x 81″ (w) x 151.75″ (l), scoreboard dimensions approx. 75″ (h) x 64″ (w) x 14″ (d).
