Close to 300 registered buyers attended the retirement auction sale of David and Joyce King’s collection of mainly farm machinery and equipment at New Barn Farm, Milland on Saturday 10th September. In spite of the non stop rain buyers pulled out all the stops to secure their choice from the range of lots on offer leading to a good day for both buyers and sellers alike.
The Kings had built up a range of now somewhat aged machinery and a collection of workshop and livestock equipment as well as what could only be described as “other stuff” in the forty years that they had farmed this idyllic setting on the Surrey/ Sussex/ Hampshire Border however notwithstanding age or condition bidding was incredibly keen for all but a few lots on offer.
The farm’s tractors were all Massey Fergusons dating from between 1978 and 1980 the three model 590’s which were all two wheel drive sold to £3400.00 and the model 148 also made £3740.00. They were all very much presented in their working clothes and needed money spent on them to bring them up to collector’s condition. Other highlights included a Suzuki Eiger Quad at £1980.00, a John Deere x120 garden tractor at £1320.00, a Bamford Kestrel Flail Hedger £3960.00, Norton Bale trailer £2090.00, and Wheatley 8 ton tipping trailer £1760.00.
Several lots were included from surrounding farms and best prices here were for a 1991 Ford TW25 tractor at £6600.00, David Brown 885 tractor £2805.00, JCB utility vehicle £3080.00, Rousseau timber mulcher £880.00, Case TF300 Trencher £2420.00, 2002 Knight sprayer £2145.00 and a 2005 Gregoire Besson discordon for £2530.00.
Undercover in the barn the first 500 lots of the day were well sold and included an anvil at £110.00, aluminium ladders to £77.00, electric fence units to £154.00, Vintage compressor £165.00, Saddles sold to £308.00, Stihl chainsaws to £231.00, Makita table saw £396.00. Probably the rarest lot of the day was a Harrods of London Edwardian cast iron safe from the farmhouse which made a strong £275.00.
