Diamond Grading

What is meant by diamond Grading?

The four factors that are considered when judging a diamond's quality; Colour, Clarity Cut & Carat weight.

    Colour

Most diamonds run from colourless to near-colourless, with slight hints of yellow or brown.
The colour grading scale begins with the letter D, representing colourless, and continues with increasing presence of colour to the letter Z, or near-colourless. Each letter grade has a clearly defined range of colour appearance.

    Clarity

  • Diamonds have natural birthmarks. Minerals or fractures form these tiny faults, or inclusions, while the diamond is formed in the earth.

    Cut

When we talk about the cut we are more interested in the proportion rather than the shape. In an ideally-proportioned diamond, all of the light entering a diamond from the top will bounce within a diamond and be reflected back through the top, giving the stone maximum brilliance and fire after this you then have the diamond shape with the standard round brilliant cuts which dominate the market today.

  • Carat Weight

Carat is often confused with size even though it is actually a measure of weight. The cut of a diamond can make it appear much larger or smaller than its actual weight.
