                                    Northbrook Farm Sale Report

A sad day for John Cooper who had reluctantly decided to retire from forestry contracting. His entire well maintained and specialist equipment came under the hammer on the 12th May at Northbrook Farm, Worthing.

Senior Auctioneer Glen Snelgar was pleased to receive instructions from John who had been a Weller’s customer for many years at Guildford Cattle Market. The sale included two very rare Massey Ferguson 1250 Tractors both fitted with timber cranes as well as one of the final Antar Tank Transporters to roll of Thorneycroft’s, Basingstoke Production line in 1962.

After a thorough national and local advertising campaign 420 buyers registered at the sale.

Workshop maintenance and small ground care equipment came under the hammer in the early stages of the day; highlights of this section included a pallet of road signs at £270, a Kingshoffer Clamshell bucket at £600, a Sachs Dolmar 48” chainsaw (20 years old) at £270, Boughton 7ton winch £1550 and a Jones and Shipman surface grinder at £1300.

At 2pm dodging showers the company moved outside to the heavy plant section where prices were as follows
Glen and Antar
Stump grinders (3) to - £6100
Lansing Bagnall Electric forklift - £950
1995 Richard Weston 14ton trailer - £5400
Marshall 10ton tipping trailer - £2200
Single phase soil screener - £4800
Jenz composter - £4600
Vermeer Stump grinders (2) to - £2500
Morbark Woodchippers (3) to - £10500
1992 Iveco Turbo daily crewcab - £4400
1991 JCB Fastrac 145 tractor - £5600
1997 MF1250 Tractor with timber crane - £11500
An immaculate 1982 MF 1250 with timber crane which sold after a prolonged bidding battle (included 5 members of staff on phone bids!!!) to a Carlisle farming family at £20500
1983 Foden 15ton 6x6 cab/chassis £3900

Both John and his son Chris were very sad to see their cherished Antar come under the hammer. Glen’s guide of £15-20000 proved to be very wrong, phone bidders were once again outgunned by those present at the auction. It was an intense bidding battle all the way to the final hammer price of £26 000 with a very happy purchaser hoping to put the vehicle to work in his recovery fleet and exhibit it at Military shows in due course.
