Wellers Surrey Auction House at Chertsey celebrated the end of their most successful year ever after their December sale and are set to repeat the performance in 2010.
The Fine Art, Antiques and Jewellery departments have over 40 sales planned for the coming year. Starting on Jan 15th with a sale of pawnbrokers unredeemed pledges. This sale has grown in popularity as the gold price has soared.
In February wellers will be selling the contents of the Thatched House in Pyrford. The vendors, an American Danish couple had been in residents for nearly forty years and collected a wide range of decorative antiques, furniture and silver.
Gordon Patrick catalogued the furniture and declared his favorite pieces to be a pair of 18th Century console tables carved with dolphins and an Empire chair with bronze mounts.
These were purchased by the vendors mother in the 1950s from an antique shop in Windsor, they have remained with the family until now They are not only decorative but would sit well in a modern interior and are expected to create a lot of interest.
Mr Patrick says a house sale was on the cards as everything was so beautifully laid out, but in the end the house sold very quickly. ”We will do our best to recreate it in the saleroom the whole sale looks very exciting”.
A new addition to wellers specialist sales is in March when a film and Entertainment Auction will take place. Lots already entered include a large collection of film posters, a Bafta award and a Superman Costume worn by actor Christopher Reeve.
