A Royal Doulton biscuit barrel decorated by Hannah Barlow was the favorite lot in the ceramics section of Wellers sale. Hannah Barlow was the first female artist to work at  the Doulton workshop in Lambeth, she followed her father Arthur Barlow into the pottery business in 1871 and two years later was joined by her sister Florence. The Barlow sisters work stands out as amoungst other Doulton wares and is treasured for its charming freehand decoration of Horses, dogs, birds and country scenes. There was interest in the saleroom and also from live  internet bidding, the biscuit barrel finally sold for £800 plus premium.  In the instrument section a 19thC stereoscopic viewer  with slides and original box attracted collectors from far and wide, and sold at £1700 plus premium.  Jewellery was the attraction for many private buyers and a Cartier watch made one of them very happy at £1100   Perhaps the suprise of the day was the st Stanislas medal, here bidding was very strong from both Russia and Belarus with the Russians finally winning to take the medal home at £2000.
