Wellers Auction House continues to enjoy success in the field of 20th design and decorative arts.
Last week the Chertsey saleroom was packed with eager buyers and with many registered to bid on the internet, competition was strong.
The early 20th-century section covering Arts and Crafts with items from Liberty and Heals proved particularly
popular with the Scottish buyers.
A bedroom suite by the designer E.A. Taylor sold for £2,200 and a small cabinet containing some rare Medmenham tiles identified by a Wellers specialist surpassed expectations selling to a collector for £1,150.
The Art Nouveau and Art Deco section contained some of the most glamorous items in the sale, the top lot being a Tiffany lampshade dating from 1910.
Telephone bidding took the lot to its eventual selling price of £9.200 to a London dealer.
Doulton ware lots included a biscuit barrel with frieze decoration of ponies which fetched £600 and a Dickens dream jug which sold for £720.
Modern design is the newest field attracting many young first-time collectors looking to furnish their homes but also to buy for investment. A table and chairs by Danish designer Hans Wegner sold for £1,440 and a George Nelson bench made £1,000.
Record prices were achieved for a Moorcroft pomegranate plate which sold for £2,300 and two Pianon glass sculptures which sold for more than £3,000.
In the vintage fashion and textile section, Chinese costume has proved increasingly popular attracting bidding from around the world.
Buyers in the vintage fashion section included fashion designers, collectors and those looking for that individual garment not available on the high street.
An unusual card print 1950's dress sold for £300 and a Brussels lace wedding veil sold for £450. And some Herb Anthony fabric by designer Lucienne day sold for £280.
